In practice, though, it <strong>reduces heat loss, prevents condensation and helps deliver a safe, technically clean installation for the whole system<\/strong>.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3a0399c e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3a0399c\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4e1236e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4e1236e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_animation&quot;:&quot;none&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why insulate a plate heat exchanger?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b8078e0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor translation-block\" data-id=\"b8078e0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/aptec.international\/en\/heat-exchangers\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">plate heat exchanger<\/span><\/a> transfers heat between two separate circuits. If the heat exchanger is not insulated, part of the heat is transferred through its surface directly to the surrounding environment. In heating and domestic hot water systems, this results in <strong>heat loss<\/strong> that is not utilized by the system. In cooling applications, the opposite occurs: heat from the surroundings is transferred towards the cold surface of the heat exchanger, creating a <strong>risk of condensation<\/strong>.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dc77146 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor translation-block\" data-id=\"dc77146\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">The significance of heat loss is also demonstrated by a <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.wpi.edu\/downloads\/bc386k85c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">study<\/span><\/a> conducted at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. In the tested uninsulated plate heat exchanger, <strong>heat losses to the surroundings accounted for approximately 24\u201332% of the heat transferred from the hot stream<\/strong>. The extent of these losses depends primarily on:<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-59c4abd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"59c4abd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n \t<li>the temperature of the heat exchanger and the surrounding environment,<\/li>\n \t<li>the size and design of the heat exchanger,<\/li>\n \t<li>airflow around the heat exchanger,<\/li>\n \t<li>operating time,<\/li>\n \t<li>the insulation material and thickness,<\/li>\n \t<li>the quality of the insulation installation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6ff41af elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6ff41af\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis does not always represent a true heat loss. If the heat exchanger is installed in a space that is already being heated, such as a boiler room or plant room, the heat released from its surface remains within the heated area. Insulation may also be less important for equipment that operates only for short periods and with a small temperature difference. The situation is quite different in continuous operation or where large temperature differences are involved. Properly selected thermal insulation helps reduce these losses.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fe7c742 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"fe7c742\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-363e4c6 animated-slow elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"363e4c6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_animation&quot;:&quot;none&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">EPP or PUR for heating, different requirements for cooling<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-10537f4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"10537f4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFor heating and domestic hot water applications, insulation made from <a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.aptec.international\/kategorie\/izolace-k-vymenikum\/tepelna-izolace-epp-cerna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">EPP (expanded polypropylene)<\/span><\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.aptec.international\/kategorie\/izolace-k-vymenikum\/tepelna-izolace-pur-modra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">PUR (polyurethane foam)<\/span><\/a>. <strong>is commonly used. EPP is a lightweight and dimensionally stable material<\/strong> suitable for the production of rigid components that follow the shape of the heat exchanger. <strong>PUR offers very good thermal insulation properties<\/strong> and is also used in versions with a protective outer casing.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2df9180 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2df9180\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn cooling applications, protection against condensation is just as important as limiting heat transfer. If the surface temperature falls below the dew point of the surrounding air, moisture may begin to condense on uninsulated surfaces. Solutions such as closed-cell elastomeric foams and vapour-tight insulation systems suitable for low temperatures are used.
