In mechanical engineering manufacturing, even small savings in tool management can make a big difference in overall efficiency. Proper storage, traceability, availability and tool life all have a direct impact on the CNC Machining.

Automation as a practical solution: Matrix Maxi in our shop floor operation

As part of our search for the right solution, we focused on reducing manual tool handling, improving inventory visibility, and making day-to-day work easier for machine operators. The answer was the new automated tool management system, Matrix Maxi, which has significantly improved how we keep our tools under control.

Matrix Maxi offers capacity for up to 2,880 tools. With electronic access, it provides an instant overview of:

current stock levels,
issued tools,
replenishment needs,
usage history for each item.

In the system, we store inserts, end mills, drills, reamers, spare parts and other accessories that are a standard part of our CNC production.

A summary of our experience

Implementing the Matrix Maxi automated tool dispensing system in our shop has proven to be a step in the right direction. The automation has given us better visibility, improved organization and stronger support for a smooth, uninterrupted CNC production flow. With reliable tool consumption data, we can plan production more accurately, prevent downtime and manage inventory more efficiently. This is another area where we’re continuing to steadily improve the efficiency and reliability of our manufacturing processes.
